Blizzard Like Conditions

Brace for impact

I find it difficult to enjoy the relentless prairie wind and instead, tend to brace for impact.

Minnesota is known for its incredibly unpredictable weather.  It is not uncommon to have a 40-degree temperature swing within 24 hours. However, I enjoy witnessing the vast expanse of the lakeside landscape fully lit by the light of the moon and I am blessed by the broad, beautiful sunrises or sunsets of the prairie horizon.

Recent opportunities to drive in blowing snow have opened my eyes to compare zero visibility driving with the veil that can sometimes shroud my spiritual sight when attempting to navigate life. My vision and speed can adjust to safely navigate the road of life, but how many of us slow-our-roll enough to compensate for the inability to see or know the direction forward?

Life’s choices of left, right or straight ahead can be difficult to determine because of what we can’t see.  I often say, “Our future is not written yet.”  Truth is: We do not know what the future holds for us, but if we do know and surrender to the one that writes our future, we can safely navigate our white-out conditions on that road.

Releasing control to accept the unknown is not something that I could have honestly done many years ago even after making a commitment to entrust my life to the one true God, Jesus Christ.  However, after many years of healing and letting go, I have learned to trust Him with life-changing decisions. I can say that He has never failed me or failed to amaze me. In this, His faithfulness has proven this scripture to be truth to me:

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
— Matthew 6:26, NKJV

When life looks impossible and I have surrendered my rational thinking in exchange for asking, seeking, and knocking in prayer to God, He always opens doors of opportunity that were beyond my vision, outside of my sight line, and for those hunters out there, exceeded the distance of my range finder. Provision occurs, opportunities come about, and shelter is found in unlikely places.  Prospects arise that are exceedingly abundant and beyond my imagination.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
— Ephesians 3:20, NKJV

If you haven’t taken a step to trust God with an aspect of your life. Take an inventory. What one thing are you ready to let go of? It doesn’t have to be big. When you are ready, consciously hand it over. Write it down.  Ask Him for His help. Watch for His answer.  It’s about trust. It’s about faith.  It’s about letting go.  If you are in white-out conditions, why not hand it over to the one that is seated in high places with a clear vision of how you can safely navigate to reach the abundance that He desires for you to have in life.
