In the Throes

It’s been a pressure filled time overall in this world, and for me, in this country. Wouldn’t you agree?

I have heard some say that current events are coming to a climax in October, which could be true. However, our time is not necessarily aligned with God’s sovereign time. In other words, things always seem to take longer than I expect.

Today, I think about the windstorms of life as I watch the wind’s affect on the lake and the surrounding land. It seems to create instability and can seem quite destructive. The trees are being shaken by the wind. Leaves, acorns, branches to name a few, are breaking, falling and showing the frailty of life in this season of the fall.

Then, my eyes shift to the water and the waves. I know that the temperature of this season cools the water down, and the wind can only help to speed up that process. Debris is blown from one end of the lake to the other. The waves toss over, and over eventually hitting the shoreline, eroding the beauty of what once was, just moments ago.

Life is like that. The wind blows, causing branches to fall and waves to hit the shoreline of our lives. It’s a change over or transition. What we thought was so beautiful and what we desired to cling to can become rubble, even debris under our feet. It’s normal for us to expect cherished moments of life to never fade.

However, when I find myself clinging to that beauty, it brings me pause and I am reminded that all things in this world fade away. If I cling to a branch that ends up falling to the ground, I will find myself falling with it. I realize that it had become part of my identity, part of my expected normal.

Today, I am reminded that the only way to successfully walk through life is to cling to Jesus, the son of God and God, the Father of all beauty, while following the Holy Spirit, as my guide who leads me in the direction I should walk in. “... this is the way….walk in it.

Isaiah 30:21
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Psalm 37: 1-6

He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.
